11-18-06 I've never finished in the red on the baseball numbers, but I guess there's a first time for everything. Oh yeah, and I'm also not a good loser, so don't expect me to be too wordy. The sad stats are below, a whopping 30+ units in the hole. At least while I'm here I'll use this space to vent about one of my least favorite things about baseball - waiting so long for the award winners to be named. Does it really take a month and a half to figure out Johan Santana was the best pitcher in the AL this year? Have the baseball writers who vote for the awards been slacking all season and need that time to catch up on some stats? I can't figure it out. More times than not, it seems like all that delay is good for is allowing some bias to the guys who put up numbers in the postseason. That shouldn't be the case. There are postseason awards for a reason. It's already difficult to focus on baseball by the time the regular season wraps up, especially if your team doesn't have a piece of a pennant race. Football is new and exciting. But by the time these awards are announced, basketball has already started as well. MVPs shouldn't be an afterthought. Cy Young awards shouldn't be buried behind a college football matchup. Oh well. Until I'm a member of the baseball writers' association, no one will ask my opinion. And with the resume-crushing numbers below, I don't think that will be happening anytime soon.
